The Home Is Going Up Fast!

Jack, Leon and I took a field trip out to the house. This place is just cool. I don't know the technical term for it, but it has this kind of bell tower that is simply striking. And because the house was sited south, it doesn't square off the lot like un-green (old-fashioned) houses. Behind the house is a field, and on this sunny, windy day it looked like a roil of seawater under the blue, blue sky. There were a lot of workers out drilling and pounding and listening to Bob Seger.

Jack explained that in the case of the HGTV Dream Homes, they don't work on a normal building schedule -- they work on a TV schedule. They have plans in place for shows, sweepstakes, you name it. Not to mention the unveiling next year. This house is going up fast.

There are challenges. The first 25 days of the build, it rained. Now the roof is on, so it's not a problem. But that lot must have been one big pile of sludge.

Because this is a dynamic process, Jack and company make decisions on a daily basis that can alter the form or function of parts of the house.

There were earthmovers out back grading the land. I started feeling house envy again. I wish I could build a green house.

But Jack said any step you take on your home toward going green is a good step. You know, if your washer conks out you can replace it with an energy-saving model. You don't just toss out what you already have. That would not be green.

Is it terrible that I am hoping something goes terribly wrong in my kitchen so I have to replace everything with state-of-the-art green technology?

The bell tower that you mention, are you referring to a cupola?

Marilyn,What color is the roof?In one drawing it shows to be pink which I would love,in other drawings it shows to be silver. And what is that being built behind the house,is it another house or what.I can't tell from the pictures but it looks close. It looks like a two story building.

WOW, I cant believe the new "GREEN Home" is being built in our backyard. Where is this exactly near Tradition.

I visited the Green Home site today and was amazed to see Jack and the filming crew. Jack talked with me about his vision for the GH and now it is all coming together in a beautiful Florida sunshine setting. I will be visiting often and appreciating the work that is being put into this environmentally friendly home. Thank you Jack for being so gracious to me and my grandson, Alexander. My daughter-in-law took some great pictures for us to share with our MB friends. Tradition in Port St Lucie is truly "Our Kind of Town" with the HGTV 2009
Green Home!

I can't to see the progess of this house. It looks amazing. I would love to be out of the cold and snow, laying on the beach, soaking up the sun at this beautiful home.

It's super that you're taking advantage of our Florida climate to promote Green Living. And, Port St. Lucie is a true combination of modern and traditional sunny Florida living. Someone is going to be very lucky to win this jewel. I'm looking forward to studying your progress.

I would love to be soaking up the sun if Florida, instead of soaking up the cold in ohio.

I sure hope they get some decent photos for the web site. The dream home photos are awful. Blurry in spots up close pic of door knobs and lamps. I can't believe how bad they are. I can't get the video to work yet but maybe it is not loaded. I loved the 360 view they have done in the past.

It is exciting to see the house being built. Going green is something that we all wish that we could afford to do. Having lost a child to cancer at the age of 4 make our family think about what we do and the impact that it has on the environment now and in the future!

I have only one comment, after living here in Florida since 1980, my opinion is the last thing we need in the green home is carpeting. Tile makes much more sense. Sand collects in carpet and and also will scratch any kind of wood floors that you have. Maybe it's okay in the bedrooms, but I sure wouldn't want it anywhere else.

I work for a local pool builder and we build green pools,I think this house needs one!

Hi, What a beautiful house! I wish you folks could build houses like this all over the USA! On this particular house, after looking at the floor plan, I see that the Master Bedroom is right next to a wonderful porch, but there's no door leading to it from the room. Couldn't you add a door so residents could step from the bedroom onto the porch/deck with their morning coffee?

interesting house!
couple of questions -
what direction is (front of) house facing -
is there a full basement re utilities and storage -
where are driveway and garage in relation to house -
is kitchen 'screened' from front entrance -
lived in an Eichler house (in San Francisco Bay Area) where access to back yard was through main bath/laundry room....

For those of you that visited the green home 09, where is the garage they mentioned? It does not show on the floor plan. Is it seperate from the house? If so where? Thank you so much for keeping us informed. I would love to see the pictures you took.

Just now visited the GH photos and listened to the video. Another great house in Florida, kept registering for the last house in Fla, will do the same for this one. I love the design and colors you have chosen for all your homes, would not change a thing if chosen. Just have to add my own personal touches.

I have looked at the floor plan and most of the pictures of the 2009 Green house. It looks great, except for one thing.

Where is the garage? AND IF IT IS GOING TO BE A SEPARATE STAND ALONE GARAGE, HOW DO YOU ENTER THE HOUSE FROM THE GARAGE? THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR?

DID SOMEBODY FORGET SOMETHING?
