A Winning Team of Experts
I've got house envy. Grand, brooding, green for jealousy house envy.
After a spin through the HGTV Green Home going up in Port St. Lucie, Florida you would, too. This house is only weeks old and is already shaping up to be a Spanish Contemporary show stopper.
There's a winning team of experts headed up by House Planner, Jack Thommasson who you by now know and love after 12 Dream homes and the first Green Home in Hilton Head, South Carolina. This crew knows how to get things done, and done right.
From the start, green philosophy was at play. The house is sited south to make the most of the light while keeping the heat out. The sun rises and sets in different areas throughout the year. The Green House will have minimum sun exposure in the summer to keep the house cool and it is at an angle that in winter will provide lots of light without the heat.
Oh and speaking of envy, how do you think it was spending the afternoon on a construction sight with Rock Star Jack? Have you seen how handsome he is?

I'm totally stoked about your blog (not to mention rock-star Jack). Can't wait to hear more about the HGTV Green Home!

ICF is great when properly designed and installed. Looking forward to all the other "Green" products. Will we see Radiant Solar Heat and DHW? Did the architect/designer/engineer ever consider thermal breaks? The first photo is not-green thermally.

It appears that, at this point in construction, it would easy to make the house handicapped accessible. I have 4 types of arthritis as well as other medical problems. It would beautiful to place a sweeping ramp instead of stairs up to the front. It's not difficult to place the electrical outlets higher on the walls. Grab bars in bathrooms are now almost as decorative as expensive towel bars, and so much more practical. Wider doorways and halls are seldom noticed by non-handicapped people, but are a God-send for people using wheelchairs, walkers, and canes. A small elevator is easily tucked into a closet to provide easy access between floors. Levers replace round knobs on doors with style and flair, and unique designs now available for kitchen cabinet hardware bring pizzazz without screaming "MODIFICATION." Please consider some of these options which are low cost with a positive impact to make more people "green" with envy when they see how seamlessly these modifications fit into a house to make it truely a home for challended people.

I live 24 minutes away and hope to see how the Green Home is coming along. It is great to have it so near. May be I'll even run into handsome Jack. Glad to have a crew that knows how to get the job done right!

When are we going to see the floor plans for this house? I would also have to agree that carpeting is out here in Florida, way too much sand and mold build-up in the padding underneath from carpet cleaning. My prefernces are tile or hardwood even though if you're not careful, sand build-up can scratch the hardwoods.

I love the floor plan for this house! A split bedroom plan with entertainment space in the middle is great! My family used to live in Port St Lucie and we really miss it! We live in Arizona now and I really miss the beaches and great friendly community. I couldn't think of a better place to build this Greeh Home.

The 2008 Green Home, I actually guessed correctly. When they stated there was a hold-up & things needed to be worked out, I said to my Hubby, "I bet that's H.Head." They have too many and way too strict building "policies/politics." I knew because I live there & have been frustrated by them SO many times. I'm really hoping & praying for the 2009 Green home. I have friends who've moved there & "lost" family members I just "found," but, have never seen. My Birthday is Feb 16th & I haven't lucked out with the DREAM HOME-even though I have been SURE (tee
hee) that I would win one for a Birthday Gift. I'm STILL hoping for one, but I've included the Green Home to my "dreams." The descriptions, so far, sound absolutely BEAUTIFUL and Jack really knows how to pick the most beautiful places.
Hey Jack, if I don't get either one of these, how about looking for another one in N.C. near
"some" mountains, but on a HUGE Lake-for water, fishing, and water sports? Keep up the GREAT
work! Rosemary

Learn how to maintain your carpet. A simple awareness and knowledge about carpet cleaning is oftentimes become a powerful tool against a total damage.

2009 Green home is too Big to be Green. How about in 2010, I would be honored to help you share a much smaller great design the- Complete Green- home for 4, which is less than half the size, using half the land and 2x as affordable to maintain and operate after winning it-for real people today- while keeping the natural space surrounding it to reduce the non-green watering and lawn mowing and carbon foot print. I would love to help you do a modern NEW w/reuse on old waterfront location in Door County, Wisconsin, known as The Cape Cod of the Midwest. “The Door”, has over 2 million visitors a yr from all over the country. Great educational tool for the Midwest, (in a tourist area for the sweepstakes and tours). Call me if your interested in reviewing this option further 920-495-3779. I have been doing Green-Development for 20+ years and an event coordinator.
My latest green project:
see: 1951 "Holiday Music Motel". The 1st ever Music Motel, where musician’s, writers can check into their room and patch into an onsite recording studio so they can record music written from their room in total privacy. Because of a fire redo currently, will reopen in June LEED Certified and National Register ready.
