Nearly Finished
The house is nearly finished! Hooray! And it looks great. I hadn't been out to the site for a couple of weeks. Last time I was there, nothing was in the kitchen -- not an appliance in sight. There was concrete on the floor instead of the fabulous Shaw flooring. I would do my entire home in their wood floors. Wait until you see how beautiful and luxurious they are!
Last blast, I told you about the terra cotta metal roof. Now there are matching terra cotta Bermuda shutters on the windows that look wonderful and provide a "pop of color" to the neutrals of the house.
I drove out with Leon and when we drove by the house I actually asked him what it was! That's how far they've come.

Just review phase 3 but no other more recent photos. When will the finished product be revealed? The bathroom photo in phase three had what appeared to be a very tiny tub hope there is a more spacious shower in the master bath. I am getting so excited to see the finished product. What is the day of the drawing? Lets just plain on you coming to Orange, Massachusetts that day, I'll be waiting!!!!!

Can't wait till it's done. I keep forgetting about this home, too busy with the Blog Cabin and Dream Home Contest. Will try to keep up with this one now. So far the way this is looking it might be the one to win.

I looked at the updated photos and none of what you are telling us was included, just some construction photos. It would be nice to see all you are describing, when will those pictures be available for us to enjoy?
I look forward to seeing the finished home, and believe you me I will be entering each and everyday, I have no hope of ever having my own home and this gives me some hope. I understand that millions and millions of people enter this contest, and I dream that I am the one out of the millions that is the big winner and my story begins again!
Thanks for the great work you do!!!

He has over 10 years of drapery and blind installation experience in the Boca Raton area and would be more than happy to help with this AWESOME home! Can't wait to see the full reveal! I'll definitely be signing up for this one when the time comes! AWESOME design and LOVE the exterior lines!

I am like the rest of you, I cannot wait to see more photos and to hear more about the green home. I have great respect for all the hard work and planning starting with Jack Thomasson.
My husband didn't believe in chances to win on the dream homes. We started on the Sonoma home and totally fell in love with it. And now we are having fun together dreaming along with the rest of you.
Thank you HGTV for that gift and to all of you. It is fun to dream along with you.
Good luck all of you.

I guess I have an odd question. I noticed the roofs are being sprayed with 8 1/2 inch thick insulation foam.
When I was adding some living space in an attic, I needed to insulate directly under the roof decking. It was recommended that I put a egg carton type of product to leave a space between the roof and the insulation so the roof could breathe.
Do roofs need to breath? Or is it OK to insulate up to the roofs decking.
If the roof needs to breathe how is this accomplished with the foam product?

Maybe it is just because I come from an area that was hit hard by drought, but don't bath tubs use more water than showers making them less eco friendly?
Things got so extream here we've had buckets in the shower with us to catch water for our garden.

When can we see the house in Port Saint Lucie?
also when can we enter to win. It sounds great.

Does anyone know when the contest starts for the
2009 Green Home? Good Luck to all who enter. I really love this location and the house plans. Maybe I will be lucky this time.

Why anyone would want to live in PSL is beyond me. I've been here 3 yrs & it doesn't impress me at all. The Town of Tradition however is nice & somewhat pet-friendly, they have lots of special events & a great ice cream shoppe. The rest of the PSL area, well, I'm sorry we moved here. I feel like the caucasians are becoming a minority & with the housing market the way it is, its only going to get worse.

I just hope this house is on high ground and is hurricane proof. The last time I was down in Port St. Lucie was with the Red Cross and it was for flooding from hurricane Fay.
I can say from my visit that the people there are nice. :-)

With the metal studs, I'm curious how you hang heavier objects such as a wall-mounted TV, large paintings, art, cabinets and shelving -- even towel bars need lots of support. The anchors or toggle bolts don't seem like they'd be strong enough if you have to use just the sheetrock areas. Or, do you drill in to the metal? I love the idea of metal studs since they're termite-proof!

Oh-- my, what a beautiful area to build this new green home. The pictures I saw posted today of the surrounding beach, the birds, and shells lifted my spirits so- so high. Can't wait to see the finished home. I sure would love to be the lucky winner of this home. The Spanish style and floor plan are perfect. I am hoping to see some bold colors for the interior.
Thank you for being so generous to build a home to give away. HGTV- I love your TV programs.
I especially like - well all of them.

Thanks HGTV for building "Green". This home sounds so lovely and inovative. I love all of the detailed progress reports and am excited to see and read "phase 5" field reports. I can't wait until we can all start entering.Even though this is a "Green Home", this is my "Dream Home"!! The thought of being lucky enough to win this sends shivers down my spine, tears to my eyes, and alot of hope...hope that I win it!! A real dream come true since I live in an apartment.

Loved the 2008 green home, and the 2009 green home looks fantastic so far. The location is perfect. This home has everything except maybe a pool. Natural salt water pools are a great idea, no chemicals and can be made with natural materials, just a thought!

I have also lived in PSL for 3 years. PSL is a melting pot filled with many wonderful colours and versions of people. The city of PSL is extremely friendly and family oriented. It saddens me to read a posting by "TMK" writing such negative comments. That being said, all cities across the country have been affected by the failing market and PSL is not exempt from this fact. I am happy to report, despite the doom and gloom from the TV NEWS MEDIA that building has begun to pick up and home sales are selling once again. Don't take my word for it, drive around the city and observe the plentiful flow of traffic and full parking lots whether it be Tradition Square, Torino area, St. Lucie West, Torsoro-Veranda Falls-Becker Road or Sandpiper/Club Med/US One area. Although it will take some time for every thing to even out, history will repeat itself and when it does any one who chose to reside in PSL will be very lucky. THANK YOU for choosing our city as your next GREEN HOME! I live about 15 minutes from Tradition Village and look forward to touring the home as soon as possible and of course entering the contest to try and win!! P.S. Although PSL is full of many waterways, rivers and canals, the Atlantic Ocean is approximately 9 to 11 miles east of PSL.
