Outside the Green Home
The outside is lovely, and with all the paint in place and the landscaping done and the outdoor furniture just calling my name, I was entranced.
The front porch overlooks (beyond the road) a large lake -- and two oversized dark-brown rattan chairs are already set up. You can just see yourself relaxing after a tough day of pruning your roof garden.
There is a grass lawn, and lots of drought-tolerant plants here and there (whose names I didn't know). There are three living spaces out back (which is really to the side of the house). Out back, where the garage is, a new GMC Sierra Hybrid is sitting in the driveway waiting to be given away. There is an outdoor four-poster daybed in what I imagine is a dark-stained teak with a comfy mattress covered in an all-weather outdoor fabric.
A silver-colored table that says "Moroccan" to me sits nearby. There are indoor/outdoor rugs that have been bound to create area rugs and lovely draperies hanging from all the sides. Across from the two patios is an island deck with a state-of-the-art grill that includes a griddle and preparation space. It's placed in the perfect spot (I've learned first-hand about keeping the grill away from the house -- turn it on when it's too close, and all your fire alarms come on). It is also far enough away from the seating areas to keep smoke at a minimum.
And wait! Guess what else is there???? A bocce ball court! Can you believe it? An 18-foot-long bocce ball court! Who thought of that?

This is so great - I feel at home already - how I would love to escape the harsh weather in IN - my 73 year old bones could use the sunshine of Florida and I know my eight year old little man would thrive in such a beautiful place - being green the home will be perfect for Levi since he has asthma - much better, cleaner air - Wow, wish it were mine!

This is looking very nice. I'll be perfectly honest, I havn't been keeping up with this years Green Home as much as in the past. Does it have a rain water collection system buried inground?

We used to live in Sunrise, FL (almost 1 1/2 hrs. south of Pt. St. Lucie) & my fiance's ex....had looked at Tradition, FL (due to her influence & keen sense of ability to know this community would stand out amongst the nation)....where Kennedy built the model Victorian in Heritage Oaks....she since, lost her son 3 years ago....and has longed to go back to her beloved Tradition, FL where her son loved....we live out of state on a ranch....but, know this place & the natural means to build it....would mean the world to her heart....just a tidbit....kent

This sounds wonderful! I've not played bocce...but can learn quickly. Hmmmmm? Fire alarms for grilling to close to the house. Sounds like the GH is made for me.
Thanks for the info, Marilyn. I've been trying to cyber snoop looking for what is in the area of the GH. This should hold me until we get the complete tour, I hope.

The house sounds lovely, I wish I lived close enough to see it. Looking forward to the sweepstakes!

I can play Bocce, pronounced "Ba' chee". So this is an Italian green house?
I learned really quickly not to keep a grill near the house. This winter, I placed my grill on my upper patio next to the house for cooking during the winter. Apparently an animal got into the back of the grill and chewed on the aluminum gas line trying to get at the grease drippings. I turned the grill on to warm it up and started walking around the yard to see what yard work was needed. By chance I walked behind the grill and turned around to see flames shooting out of the back of the grill down onto the main gas line. YIKES!
The grill now stays on the lower garden patio.

I have another odd question. I live in Atlanta and we have experienced an extreme drought over the last few years. Is there a water encashment for the garden? Or are we depending on the South Florida 2:00pm rain shower every day?

The Green Home sounds great! I can't believe that Tradition is this years location. I remember when they put up the "Traditions Tower" near I-95. It was at this time that I began saying, "I would love to live in a planned community." Well thanks to the GH sweeps... I will have my chance! Best Wish to All!!!

I'm so thrilled that you've picked Florida for the next GH. I grew up on the East Coast of Fl. I've been in Maryland for 5 yrs and can't wait to go back to Fl. You've picked an absolutly beautiful area. Keep up the good work. Standing by for the sweepstakes to begin.:)

This is a very nice home. I know everyone wishes that they could one. My husband and i are raising our grandchildren and i am sure they would have alot of fun there. We have a set income so that house would be very nice of us, since we are disabled. Can't wait till i can see the inside I am sure that it's going to be just as beautiful as the outside. You have done a beautiful house with all the teams that helped. We live in Kansas and we sure are getting tired of the weather. Candy

Port St.Lucy is a wonderful place to live plenty of growth going on their. Air Port is about twenty a way some of the best shopping malls are near by. you have Disney World to the north about three hours a way to the south in Ft. Lauderdale you have Butterfly world and some great beaches too. It's a place where I would love to live.

The 2009 Green Home location could not be any better. Being constructed in an area that
serves either an active or relaxed lifestyle will be attractive to a broad range of people.
This house is going to be just beautiful as well as eco conscious which is very important to the future of this country.
On a personal note, Our daugther,son-in-law and grandaughter moved to Eastern/Central Florida last year. It would be a perfect senario for our family if we could join them there. Here's to high hopes of a family reunited.
Thanks HGTV, We'll be waiting with baited breath for furthur information.

I can not wait to see the finished product. Although I have been trying with millions, to win the amazing HGTV home sweepstakes (with no luck!) I equally enjoy watching everything that goes into prep, construction, accessorizing to finished product. I will of course try as hard as I can to win this amazing home. My husband & I have loved Florida and visited every year for the last 9 years. I hope to live one day in Paradise. We dream of playing our music in the beach bars as well as Mark being a Real Estate Appraiser. Port St. Lucie is not far from one of our dear friends that moved from Philly many years ago. Lana resides in Boca and I hope to visit her and may even stop by the new Green Home. HGTV keep up the good work, we all need something to dream about these days. Jeanie K. aka JADE

If the outside of the house is completed and the landscaping is done, when are we going to get to see some pictures. I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for this. It does sound nice. I like that the Master Suite is far away from the other bedrooms. The kitchen looks like it was made for me.
Can't wait to enter.

The new GH sounds and looks absolutely fabulous.
I'm so excited to learn more details. I love living in Florida.I was just praying along with everyone else for the great house in Ilamoralda.
We're from the Keys where my son still resides. He and his partner have a canvas and boat-glass company. It would be so wonderful
to move so much closer to the Keys.I'll keep
checking for news.

I have been so impressed with the extras that HGTV has put into the Green Home (above and beyond the regulatory Green aspects). The touches that you have made to this home before I have even seen what Linda Woodrum will do, has me so excited. I think the clerestory is unique and fabulous. I have never seen a roof garden and whenever possible, would be interested in seeing a photo. The entire team has done an amazing job, as always. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to win such an incredible home!!

The 2009 HGTV Green Home is very different in respect to both the floor plan design and curb look (front elevation), which will make this house UNIQUE!! It is not another "cookie cutter" house plan, which is very common in many new Florida subdivisions. And, I just love the "vegetative roof" idea. Can it be made into an herb garden??
Would/Could you please include the plot survey information somewhere in one of the articles about the Green Home such as;
How large the lot is (sq ft) and basic shape?
What is the placement of the building in respect to the lot?
Which direction does the house face?
Important question:
Do any of the Interior Designers working on the 2009 HGTV Green Home (those who picked out the floor tile, wood flooring, bathroom tiles, windows, etc..) actually live in Florida??
