Controlled Chaos
Contractors and builders are all familiar with the last moments of a big project. But for the 2008 HGTV Dream Home in Islamorada, Fla., there was a little more chaos, requiring a little more control.
Builder Juan Dellanos admits that working on a home built to be televised made him nervous.
* The pavers are going down.
* The palm trees are going up, the green fronds nicely accenting the blue and white house with yellow trim.
* All the construction crews are done, and their equipment has been moved off site.
* The crews left the home spotless, and the furniture is moving in ('Gorgeous furniture that's making our work look even better!' says Juan).
Project manager Mike Uhre juggled many things and kept the whole project on schedule by managing materials, subs, paperwork, and generally looking out for the interests of the eventual owner -- whoever that turns out to be.
HGTV Dream Home House Planner Jack Thomasson and Interior Designer Linda Woodrum made pivotal decisions on the final aspects of the home and moved the project forward from the start.
The chaos has been controlled, and the beautiful HGTV Dream Home 2008 has been built, leaving Juan feeling "a little shocked" that this house came off without a schedule-busting hitch.
