Next Week, We'll Be in Vegas
The folks at HGTVPro.com are gearing up for our visit to the International Builders Show in Las Vegas next week. We'll be walking the show floor looking for cool new products --- as well as answers to the questions you've sent us. We'll share our findings with you on this blog.
Many thanks to those of you who told us what you'd like to see from the show. Here are a few of the topics you said you'd like us to cover:
- Green energy technology, such as solar, wind, and kinetic power
- Recycled (or reclaimed) products and ways to improve on-site recycling
- New adhesives, such as a high-quality tile cement that will help eliminate the need for backerboard and will reduce tile breakage.
- New roofing products, especially for flat roofs.
- Alternatives to MDF molding.
- New gadgets and inventions to help save time and labor.
- Green remodeling systems and products to help homeowners know their best options for HVAC, new windows, etc. --- so that they can improve efficiency without sacrificing attractiveness.
- New kitchen and bath products.
- New pavers and deck materials.
- Floor and wall tiles made from glass or porcelain.
- Recycled glass countertops.
- Pricing information on how long it takes to realize a financial benefit from switching to green building products and materials.
- Green cabinets, countertops, and work surfaces.
- Tools for lifting heavy or bulky objects, such as water heaters.
- Information on solar generators.
- Universal design information for homes that are equally accessible to people in wheelchairs as well as folks who are more than 6 feet tall.
- Kitchen faucets that can be activated with a foot pedal.
- Geodesic concrete home alternatives.
- Cost comparisons of new technologies (e.g., SIPS, ICF, steel framing etc.) versus traditional stick-built construction.
- Whole-house water filtration systems.
- Information on jetted tubs, such as the cost and health comparisons of air jets versus water jets.
- Information on new technologies to improve the translation from design to construction. For example, what improvements have been made over traditional blueprints?
- Information on greenhouses that can be installed on small properties.
- Alternative heating technology.
If you've got any additional topics you'd like to see us cover, please share them with us by submitting a comment to this blog.

I saw your email and was wondering if you were going to cover the Next-Gen Home in Las Vegas that includes many of the things your readers are looking for. I personally would like to see whole home water filtration covered so we can get away from bathing in so many chemicals!
Many Thanks

I would like to see more on the use of ERV - Energy Recovery Ventilators in homes to provide the exhaust requirements and bring back into the home an equal amount of fresh air to help improve indoor air quality. Most homes today are so airtite they can go under negative pressure as soon as an exhaust fan is turned on which could cause naturally vented appliances such as water heaters to back draft and potentially lead to CO poisening.
Thank you, Edward Barger

What is the newest look that is traditional with longevity? Granite and tumbled stone and the Tuscan look has been around awhile, plus stainless. Is there something around the corner to replace that look.
Also, interested in flooring that really looks like wood but is more durable.

I would love to meet you in person! I am a big fan and love the ideas and shows you offer! I have recently become the newest National Sales Rep with On the House with the Carey Brothers so I will be attending the Convention!! Do you have an actual booth where I can find you or are you touring other booths the entire four days? There will be so much to see and so many people to meet with over 1,600 vendors! I have 10 rentals that I have developed and have learned a lot of valuable tips from you as well as The Carey Bros. Hope to hear from you soon!!

We have a conventional septic system with a leach field running through the back yard. Are there new technologies for processing home waste water?

Alternative material and product samples that manufacturers can provide to builders, contractors and distributors. Currently they are heavy, dirty, delicate, not green, wasteful, etc.

I would like to see some Trim options. I know that KOMA will be there with some new products. Maybe you could get a look at those?! I am looking for anything to add curb appeal to the home and add value in this market before I resell.

I'd like you to see the new Inspire Roofing by the Tapco Group. It looks like slate but is composite and is fire rated.

TimberTech new deck lighting

I would like to see more "movable" kitchen cabinetry. Why should I have to leave my dream kitchen if I sell my house? I would like to see appliances become more modular so you can put the pieces you want together to form a unit that fits your/family's needs instead of making due with whats out there preassembled. I want options!

New and affordable floor tile/carpet.
New material in countertops.
What's next after stainless? It's so outdated.
Thanks.
