The market for cutting-edge landscaping

I have been contemplating how big of a niche exists in our current market for "contemporary" ideas in the area of landscape installation.

Buff, grey, or red/charcoal?
Most neighborhoods I see have pretty much the same things going on in each yard. Are homeowners really satisfied with the choices they have from the big box stores? Or are they just aching to spread their creative wings?

Stepford, USA?
Is it too risky with the neighbors or with thoughts of re-selling in mind? Or are they waiting on the right landscape contractor to liberate them from the "Jones"?

Who's breaking the mold?
I'm curious.
-- Are there any of you out there who want to take that step or have you already done something out-of-the-box?
-- What kind of things are you thinking about doing or what did you actually do?
-- How have you reached those special clients that enjoy being different?

Who has any good website(s) to view contemporary landscapes?
