Resources for Green Building
Heather, a small-business owner, wrote asking for info about green buildings. She has several aspects of her business that she'd like to "green up." So here are three of my favorite sources for green info:
If you have any other good sources you'd like to share, please pass the info along. We're all learning about this rapidly evolving industry.
Good luck, Heather, and congratulations on making the decision to go green!

Marjie, thanks for the compliment about the Green Building Initiative! Did you know that the GBI co-sponsors an interactive questionaire with the National Association of Home Builders?
The interactive "Model Green Home Guidelines" is completely free and guides the home builder, owner, contractor, architect, etc. through the questions they might want to consider about adding green elements to a home at the various stages of construction. When each section of the assessment is completed, it gives the person a report showing how green their house is based on the answers they gave and then gives them suggestions for additional things they might consider, and links to places they can go to learn more!
I have put a link to the site with this note. All you have to do is register for your free password in order to give it a spin!

I am planning to do a major remodel of my 4500 sq. ft. home. I would like to use all green products including a new HVAC. However, I understand it will be quite expensive!! Since I am working on a certain budget, I want to know are there any government incentives or is there a contractor who is so passionate and commited that he will do this job at a reasonable price. I live in LosAngeles county in California.
